Hiking up Table Mountain is strenuous by most people’s standard. The many rock steps can take their toll on even the fittest of people. It is usually enjoyable for those who aren’t fit to choose a hike that is easier and without the strain and sweat. If this sounds like you, there are alternatives, as we offer some easy hikes on Table Mountain. These include the Circular Walk to Maclear’s Beacon and the many hikes in Silvermine Nature Reserve.
You may like to consider the scenic circular hike on top. Catch the cableway up and down and take a two hour hike around the summit. Almost all flat, this rewarding loop takes you across the Western and central tables, offering panoramic views and spectacular scenery. The sights without the slog!
If the cableway closes all is not lost. The hike along the front face of Table Mountain on the contour path is a worthwhile alternative. A 100 metre hike up and then a easy walk on a single track path offers a unique encounter of both the geology and flora of Table Mountain, not to mention breathtaking views of the city and beyond.
Last but not least, is Silvermine Nature Reserve, which has a variety of hikes to suit all levels of fitness and ability. Hike to the Amphitheatre through Echo Valley or stroll over Steenberg plateau with its mesmerising rock formations. There is a hike for everyone so allow a few hours to experience something different and for sure you’ll find it spectacular and tell your friends that there are easy hikes on Table Mountain.
