There are a multitude of hikes and walks up Table Mountain. Many people don’t know what route to choose and what route is most suitable for them, given their age, fitness and time available. Many people are happy with the shortest and easiest hike which is Platteklip Gorge. For others, more adventurous and with an ability to scramble India Venster is possibly the best choice. For those with more time, Kasteelspoort offers a quieter route and the opportunity to experience the Back Table as well as the Front Table of Table Mountain. A longer hike requires greater fitness and stamina and might not be for everyone.
Currently with the closure of the cableway and the access road to the front of Table Mountain we are more restricted in regard to what routes we can offer. However this poses the opportunity to hike up and down the Twelve Apostles side of Table Mountain and to experience the quieter parts with no cableway passengers around and only a handful of other hikers.
Alternately you can walk on the eastern side and hike up Constantia Corner. This is a steep hike above Hout Bay with a little scrambling but with the reward of breathtaking views and intricate rock formations. This hike is not frequented by many and you may even have it completely to yourself.
So dont be put off by the closure of the cableway. There are a number of other options and amazing trails to hike all over Table Mountain. On a cool winter’s day, sun shining and blue skies what could more could you ask for?
